Our mission statement talks about improving and restoring function.
To an Acorda employee this doesn’t just mean neurological function. Through our community outreach programs and advocacy support, we provide patient education, information and resources that aim to help improve function in many aspects of life.
One of our very first community programs, the I Walk Because program gave a voice to the MS community in celebrating why they are walking, and the successes that people have achieved while living with MS. As part of this program, Acorda employees worked at I Walk Because event booths at WalkMS events throughout the country and met the MS community, hearing the real-life stories of triumphs and challenges that people with MS, and their families and caregivers, generously shared with us.
Programs like the Real Economic Impact Tour and the Financial Wellness Seminars are geared toward helping people restore their financial health, and gain more control over their financial future. These programs are run by the National Disabilities Institute and the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, with support from Acorda.
On the local level, Acorda is proud to participate in the Westchester Science and Engineering Fair and to support the Andrus Children’s Center. Both initiatives support education for the children in our county. Acorda’s scientists serve as judges at the science fair each year and encourage budding young researchers to pursue their dreams of scientific innovation. Acorda also participates in the Andrus Back Pack initiative. Our employees donate back packs stocked with school supplies for children throughout Westchester County. We also participate in our local WalkMS and BikeMS events each year, bringing friends and family along to share the experience and help raise money for MS research.
